10. Jan Kaplicky
A world-famous Neo-futuristic architect from the Czech Republic, Jan Kaplicky (1937-2009) was the inventive mind behind the Future Systems design office in London that worked with Norman Foster and Renzo Piano. Born and raised in Prague, the capital of former Czechoslovakia, Kaplicky spent a huge portion of his later life in the United Kingdom. Here he built masterpieces which include Selfridges Building in Birmingham, and the Media Center found at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London. These buildings incorporated his relentless pursuit of new and organic shapes that were sometimes called “blobitecture” or bionic architecture with eye-catching results.
