18. Santiago Calatrava
Calatrava (born 1951) is another architect from Spain, specifically Valencia. He is a rather controversial Spanish neo-futuristic designer, sculptor, structural engineer, and painter. Although he has received criticism for his very expensive and delayed works, you cannot deny that he is up there with the best architects in the whole world. Calatrava has built over sixty structures and buildings in different countries. Some of his marquee works include airport terminals, hospitals, bridges, railway stations and museums like the Milwaukee Art Museum. However, his most famous work is to be found in his hometown of Valencia, the dramatic Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia.
